CEDAR FALLS - Irvin A. Van Deest, 71, of Aplington, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Aug. 28, at Maple Manor Village, Aplington.

He was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Fern, son of Albert and Tena Okones Van Deest. He married Marcia Christensen on Jan. 21, 1961, in Cedar Falls, and they later divorced.

Mr. Van Deest graduated from Dike High School in 1957 and was employed as a plumber/HVAC specialist in the metro area, retiring in 2001.

Survived by four daughters, Laurie (Ernie) Shoup of Aztec, N.M., Sandra (Henry) Villareal of Roswell, N.M., Pamela Van Deest of Des Moines and Karen (Larry) Hamilton of Yorkville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Dustin and Megan Shoup, Phillip and Laura Fry, Cal and Ty Villareal and Brandon and Alex Hamilton; a brother, Marvin (Mardean) Van Deest of Holland; and four sisters, Harriett Forrey of Clarksville, JoAnn Van Lengen and Alberta (Jack) Simcox, both of Cedar Falls, and Elaine (Jim) Shylman of Charles City.

Preceded in death by a brother, Bernard.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with burial in Lincoln Center Cemetery, rural Grundy Center. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
