LA PORTE CITY - Brunetta E. Christian, 99, of La Porte City, died Friday, Aug. 12, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Spring Creek Township, daughter of Mahlon and Bertha Carr Williams. She married Francis H. Christian on July 1, 1933, in La Porte City. He died Aug. 29, 2000.

Mrs. Christians received her grade school education at Spring Creek #6, a one-room country school, where she later taught two years upon graduating in 1931 from Iowa State Teachers College with a diploma in Rural Teacher Education. She and her husband farmed in Black Hawk and Benton counties.

Survived by two sons, Allen of Ames and Duane (Dixie) of Dysart; a daughter, Marcena (Donald) Ver Ploeg of Pittsford, N.Y.; two daughters-in-law, Nelda Christian of Ames and Kay Christian of Woodward; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Preceded in death by two sons, Lauren and Dean; a brother, Wellwood Williams; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Christian.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heartland Community Church, La Porte City, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Sawyer Cemetery, rural La Porte City. La Porte City Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the church or La Porte City FFA Ag Museum.
