WATERLOO - John A. Naylor, 86, of Waterloo, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Kansas City, son of George and Lenora Smith Naylor. He married Mary Elizabeth Finn in June 1963 in Kansas City. She died in 1982.

He was an industrial engineer for Gates Rubber Co. until retirement. Mr. Naylor served as a naval aviator in the Pacific theater during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a captain from the U.S. Naval Reserve and was a member of Waterloo Elks Lodge and Sunnyside Country Club.

Survived by his companion, Aline Trost of Waterloo; two sons, James A. and Jack W. (Joyce Schmitz), all of Eureka, Calif.; four grandchildren, Christopher John (Fatima) Naylor, David Naylor, JackRyan (Natalie) Naylor and Alicia Naylor; two great-grandchildren, Caden and Tate; and a niece, Pattie Naylor of Shawnee Mission, Kan.

Preceded in death by a sister.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.
