CEDAR FALLS - Bertha Mae Smiley, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, July 24, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Waterloo, daughter of James A. and Jennie Knute Curran. She married Robert Paul Smiley on Oct. 1, 1977, in Waterloo. He died Sept. 10, 2009.

Mrs. Smiley was employed with Lohnes Color Photography until her retirement.

Survived by two daughters, Ann Weatherwax and Karen Taylor, both of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Robert of Waterloo and Charles (Kelly) of Waunakee, Wis.; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Vern Curran; three sisters, Dorothy Robinson, Emma Rotowski and Marlys Johnson; a nephew, James Curran; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Curran.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice or the church.
