WATERLOO - Peggy Jo Youngblut, 61, of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 10, surrounded by her family at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Peggy was born Feb. 13, 1950, in Waterloo, daughter of Jim and Marge (Wermerskirchen) Youngblut. Peggy graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, in 1968 and Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., in 1972. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.

Following college, Peggy worked as an advertising copy writer at Dayton's Department Store in Minneapolis and was attending William Mitchell College of Law in 1973 when she was struck by a drunken driver and suffered a severe brain injury.

With the love and support of her parents and family, Peggy relearned to talk and walk, play the piano, live independently, drive and even waterski. Peggy loved music, enjoyed playing the piano and being surrounded by family and friends. She also loved playing cards and making sequined calendars and cross stitch art.

In recent years, as Peggy's health declined, she never complained and always had a smile.

She is survived by her devoted mother, Marge; one brother, Jim Youngblut (Brenda Roth) of Minneapolis; four sisters, Kathy Hadley and Becky (Gary) Bertch, both of Waterloo, Nancy Youngblut of Pasadena, Calif., and Mary Beth Youngblut (Paul Fried) of Northfield, Minn.; 14 nieces and nephews, Jenny (Dave) Olson, Mike (Angie) Hadley, Chris Hadley, Eric (fiancee, Molly Hartz) Bertch, Elizabeth Bertch, Patrick and Nora Futtner, Jonathan and Emmalyn Fried, Jack, Jimmy and Mary Sophia Youngblut and Gabe and Sophie Olson; aunts, Pauline Youngblut and Maye Youngblut, both of Washburn, and Beverly Youngblut of Gilbertville; and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by her father, Jim; a brother, Dick; grandparents, Sophie and Joe Wermerskirchen and Rose and George Youngblut; and aunts and uncles, Vern and Millie Wermerskirchen, Pat and Nub Wermerskirchen, Ray Youngblut, Norman Youngblut and Jack Youngblut.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and also at 7 p.m., and visitation for an hour before services at the church Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
