MOTT, HARTMAN, ARNOLD, SALOW, COOPER, BLONIGAN

EVANSDALE - Kenneth Warren Mott, 87, of Evansdale, went to be with the love of his life, Larrine, on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, while a patient at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines, following a lengthy illness. Ken was born on Nov. 7, 1923, in Boone, the son of Charles and Emma (Arnold) Mott. He married Larrine Hartman at the Catholic church in Boone on Nov. 28, 1944. Larrine died on Dec. 2, 2005.

Ken joined the U.S. Army on Dec. 2, 1944, and served during World War II as a lineman telephone and telegraph operator in the Philippines and Japan. He was discharged on Nov. 15, 1946. Following the war, Ken sold insurance for Rockford Life. He owned Ken Mott American Motors in Manchester from 1967 until 1971. Ken then sold cars for Holdiman Motors in Cedar Falls until his retirement in 1985. Following retirement, Ken sold real estate and also cars for Mark Gill Motors.

Ken was a warm and loving man who possessed a good sense of humor with an infectious laugh. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and especially playing cards. Ken loved his children and grandchildren and took delight in spending time with his family. He was especially proud of being able to participate on a Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in 2009. Ken was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS, the Knights of Columbus and St. Nicholas Parish until it closed.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Larrine; granddaughter, Tiffany Salow; four brothers, Louis, Verlin, Henry and Ray; and a sister, Bess Cooper.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Richard) Blonigan of Des Moines, Teresa (Ron) Salow of Earlville and Patrick (Paula) Mott of Evansdale; nine grandchildren, Rich (Tori) Blonigan of Des Moines, Rob Blonigan of Circle Pines, Minn., Ron S. Salow of Cedar Rapids, Randall Salow of Monticello, Joelle (Tony) Champney of Mason City, Jenna Salow of Manchester and Nicole (Billy Granahan) Mott, Jessica (Matt Worthen) Mott and Kenneth Paul Mott, all of Waterloo. Ken is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Natalie and Alexis Blonigan of Des Moines, Nicolas Blonigan of Circle Pines, Alex Pegum of Springville, Bailey Seegers of Mount Pleasant and Channing Worthen of Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Monday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m., with burial following in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Military funeral honors will be provided by the Evansdale AMVETS and the Iowa National Guard Funeral Honor Guard. The family will greet friends at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, on Sunday, July 10, from 3 to 6 p.m., with the reciting of the rosary at 6 p.m.

As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E. Douglas Ave., Des Moines, IA 50317.
