LA PORTE CITY - Colleen M. Pries Paradine, 53, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, July 6, from injuries she suffered in a fire.

She was born Dec. 11, 1957, in Waterloo, daughter of Harold and Netha Friedly Pries. She was engaged to be married to her companion of more than nine years, Ray Ash.

She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1976. She was a CNA for numerous facilities and was assistant manager at Casey's General Store in La Porte City.

Survived by her fiance, Ray Ash of La Porte City; three brothers, Arnold (Bonnie) Pries, Harold "Hal" (Carol) Pries and Ron (Linda) Pries, all of La Porte City; a sister, Chris (Roger) Logan of La Porte City; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at American Lutheran Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at American Lutheran Church, and will continue for an hour before services Monday at the church. La Porte City Funeral Service in charge of arrangements

Authorities said Colleen Paradine, 53, of La Porte City, was working at the Casey's General Store on U.S. Highway 218 about 4 a.m. Wednesday when a fire broke out. She used her cell phone to call emergency dispatchers from inside the burning store but was apparently unable to flee to safety.

Firefighters found flames coming from the front windows when they arrived and pulled Paradine, who was unconscious, from the building. She was later pronounced dead at a Waterloo hospital.
