LA PORTE CITY - Karlene LaRue Hamann Jordt, 72, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, June 22, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

She was born June 25, 1938, east of Gladbrook, daughter of Herbert and Mildred Schmidt Hamann. She married Donald Lee Jordt on Sept. 30, 1961, at Peace United Church of Christ, Gladbrook. He died Aug. 21, 2004.

Mrs. Jordt graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1957, attended Pitze's Beauty School, Waterloo, in 1959 and worked at Pitze's Beauty Salon. She and her husband farmed near Mount Auburn from 1962 until retiring in 1993. She also worked at the Waterloo Wal-Mart for 20 years, retiring in 2010.

Survived by a son, Scott (Lori) of La Porte City; two daughters, Shari (Galen) Allen and Sandy (Anthony) Brown, both of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Tony Brown, Ashley Brown, Andi Jordt, Brady Allen and Brenna Allen; a brother, Duane (Sue) Hamann of Gladbrook; a sister, Phyllis Tegtmeier of Cedar Falls; three nephews, Kevin, Larry and Kelly Tegtmeier; and three nieces, Kris Fisher, Angie Knaack and Pam Fogt.

Preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Hans and Bertha Schmidt and Fritz and Emma Hamann; a sister, Jolene Hamann; a nephew, Duane Hamann Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Don Tegtmeier.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, with inurnment in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at La Porte City Funeral Service, and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
