WATERLOO - Dean D. Church, 72, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 5, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of surgery.

He was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Bemidji, Minn., son of Fred and Stella Marin Church. He married Jan Berg on Oct. 4, 1958, in Duluth, Minn.

Mr. Church graduated from Bemidji High School in 1956. He worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. from 1959 to 1963, then at John Deere as a machinist, retiring in 1993.

Survived by his wife; a son, Dean (Michelle) of New Hartford; three daughters, Debbie (Michael) Goldsmith, Jodi (Terry) Krieger of Waterloo and Lori (Scott) Munger of Lincoln, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, Amber, Tiffany, Eric, Lindsey, Cory, Alex, Nick, Dylan, Emily and Zachary; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, DeWayne (Cathy) of Bloomington, Minn., and Jerry of Oregon; and a sister, Donna (Floyd) Littler of Babbitt, Minn.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Darrell, Lavern, Orris and Lee; and a sister, Margaret Huffman.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with private family burial at a later date. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today and an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dean enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing and summers at the lake. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his "Happy Hours" with his friends. Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
