GILBERTVILLE - Mary M. Schares Fischels, 77, of Gilbertville, died Thursday, June 2, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Gilbertville, daughter of Joseph and Rose Mangrich Even. She married Norman Schares Sept. 22, 1953, in Gilbertville. They later divorced.

She was a homemaker.

Survived by a son, David (Ann) Schares of Gilbertville; four daughters, Donna (Dan) Schmitz of La Porte City, Patty (Abe) Camacho of Cedar Falls, Teresa Schares of Waterloo and Rita (Mark) Reiter of Sheffield; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with two more expected; a sister, Sister Therese Even, SSND of St. Paul, Minn.; four brothers, Anthony (Ella) Even, Norbert Even and Jerry (Connie) Even, all of Gilbertville, and Ted (Delores) Even of Waterloo; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine of Raymond and Bernice of Jesup.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Cletus, Joseph and Leonard Even; and a sister, Sister Monica Even, SSND.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice.
