CEDAR FALLS - Geraldine B. "Geri" Merner, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, May 26, at Western Home Communities Windhaven.

She was born April 9, 1931, in Waterloo, daughter of Henry A. and Bertha LaDage Bender. She married R. William Merner and they later divorced.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1949 and Monticello Junior College for Women in Alton, Ill. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from the University of Iowa in 1953. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority in Iowa City and Chapter R of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Cedar Falls. She was a sales associate with Younkers department store for more than 13 years and was a volunteer at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

Survived by a son, David (fiancé Sarah) of Allison; a daughter, Marci of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Megan and Leah of Cedar Falls; a sister, Jane (Gene) Baldwin of Newcastle, Wyo.; and special friends, Marianna and John Trerotola of Waverly.

Preceded in death by a brother, Paul Bender.

Private graveside services will be held at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
