FORT WORTH - Dean Benton Miller passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, just short of his 70th birthday, surrounded by his family and a number of close friends. He passed away peacefully amidst conversations about his life, long-standing family stories and meaningful prayer.

Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Haltom City, Texas, with interment at a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers but that memorials be made to Christ the King Memorial Fund, 4200 Denton Highway, Haltom City, TX 76117; or the American Cancer Society, 3301 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76107.

He was born May 25, 1941, to George William Miller and Wilda Ellis Cooper in Dallas. The family then moved to Waterloo, where he graduated from West High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in August 1959 and served in Company 412 in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs as a hospital corpsman. After an honorable discharge he entered the Waterloo police force. He married Ferrol Jean Senne on Aug. 28, 1966, and was married to her for over 40 years. They had three children: Sarah, Brian and Michael. He was employed by John Deere as a facilities engineer and then moved to Fort Worth in 1986 with his family to work for General Dynamics. His last employment was with ID Technologies.

Music was one of the joys of his life. As a robust tenor, he was a member of the Bluejackets choir during his tour of duty, Nazareth Lutheran Church choir in Cedar Falls, and was a founding member of Christ the King Chancel Choir and an active member of the church where he sang for over 20 years. He was a long-standing member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge #105 A.F. and A.M. Other loves included woodworking, his grandchildren and a good glass of scotch or bowl of Blue Bell, whichever was available.

He was preceded in death by his father, George William, and his beloved younger brother, James Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Ferrol; daughter, Sarah Bennett and husband Alan; sons, Brian Miller and wife Ashley and Michael Miller and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren, Grace, Madeline and Conner Bennett, and Alexander and Abigail Miller; his mother, Wilda C. Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers, Robert Miller and wife Charlene of Scottsdale and William Miller and wife Sandy of Waterloo.
