LA PORTE CITY - Robert V. "Bob" Palmer, 78, of La Porte City, died Tuesday, April 12, at Covenant Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Aug. 15, 1932, in rural La Porte City, son of Verian Cato "V.C." and Bessie Rowe Palmer. He married Carol J. Schreck Jan. 14, 1963, in Reinbeck. She died Jan. 13, 2000. He married Patricia Towne June 21, 2003, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. Palmer farmed in La Porte City for many years, retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of La Porte City Lions Club and La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post 207.

Survived by his wife; a son, Jeff of Hudson; a daughter, Michelle (John) Henson of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Amber and Haylee Palmer of Guttenberg, Alex Henson of Waterloo, Valerie Henson of Cedar Falls and Hannah Henson of La Porte City; three stepsons, Max Rotzler of La Porte City, Michael Rotzler of Iowa City and Randy Towne of Waterloo; two stepgrandchildren, Tess Rotzler of Iowa City and Max Rotzler of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Dorothy (Harold) Huck of La Porte City and Jean Frush of Jesup.

Preceded in death by a brother, Glenn; and a stepdaughter, Sherrie Towne.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City, with burial and military rites in West View Cemetery at a later date. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church. La Porte City Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
