EVANSDALE - Thelma M. Cousins, 99, of Evansdale, died Tuesday, April 19, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of complications from a fall.

She was born Jan. 4, 1912, in Hubbard County, Minn., daughter of Leavitt H. and Alice Olson Phillips. She married Arthur Cousins on Sept. 28, 1929, in Oelwein. He died May 7, 1961.

Mrs. Cousins worked as a nurse's aide in Oelwein and Waterloo, retiring in 1972. She then began her career as a senior companion for 20 years.

Survived by a son, David (Wanda) of Evansdale; two daughters-in-law, Florence Cousins of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nora Cousins of Elgin; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Arthur "Frank," Carl, Robert "Bob" and Delmar "Don;" a daughter, Mary Soukup; four brothers, Wilbur Phillips in infancy, and Dewell "Duge," Dorn and William Phillips; and two sisters, Florence Holthaus and Bea O'Neil.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with graveside services at 4 p.m. at Wadena Cemetery, Wadena. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
