WATERLOO - Paul Donald Koch, 86, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 10, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born April 18, 1924, in Waterloo, son of John W. and Rose Baumgartner Koch. He married Delores Wilson on Jan. 16, 1954, in West Los Angeles.

Mr. Koch graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa. He earned his journeyman plumber's license and was a partner/owner with his brothers of John W. Koch and Sons for many years. He was later employed with Dalton Plumbing, retiring in 1990, after 45 years as a plumber. He was a charter member of the Waterloo Bowling Association "700" Club, which organized in 1954, and was president for the first nine years and voted into the association's hall of fame in 1996. He also was president of the St. Edward's COF Court 1237 for 25 years and was a member of the Elks Club.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Paula (Stephen) Todd of Kansas City, Mo., and Cathy (Loren) Podhajsky of Olathe, Kan.; two sons, Steve of Clearwater, Fla., and Dan of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Bridget Evers of St. Peters, Mo., Ben Evers and Lindsey Podhajsky, both of Kansas City, and Brett Podhajsky of Olathe; a brother-in-law, Leo Beierschmitt of Fairbank; a sister-in-law, Mary Beth Koch of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Voogd; three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Stanley; and a sister, Barbara Beierschmitt.

Paul was a Hawkeye fan and follower of the Cubs. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his collection of Big Band Era Music. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed his dog, Mickey.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, the church or charity of donor's choice.
