WATERLOO - Virgie Johnson, 87, of Rosewood Estate, died at home Saturday, April 9.

She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Quasqueton, daughter of Charles Franklin and Bertha Gipe Holman. In 1941 she married Stanley S. Baker in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1960. On Dec. 29, 1962, she married Warren E. Johnson in Waterloo. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of First Wesleyan Church, Waterloo.

Survived by a daughter, Carol McGinnis of Missouri; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Virgil (Dorothy) Holman of Waterloo; a sister, Lucille (Elmore) Herold of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Cathy (John) Baker Poots of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Lora Stockton of Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Stanley R. and Roger Baker; three brothers, Ray, Charlie and Gerald Holman; three sisters, Laura Neff, Bernice Cerveny and Mildred Yanda; and special friend, Harry Cornwell in 2003.

Virgie loved her apartment at Rosewood Estate. She will be missed for her sense of humor, kind and caring spirit, and her love for her family. She also enjoyed working in her yard.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at White Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial fund has been established for Rosewood Estate.
