WATERLOO - Melvin R. "Mel" Burns, 94, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 25, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 10, 1917, son of William and Estella Bishop Burns. He married Geraldine Nordman on Jan. 20, 1936, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Burns was a self-employed carpenter for 45 years and retired from John Deere & Co.

Survived by a son, Monte (Karen) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Barbara Munson of Ankeny and Holly Lehnen of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, George and Charles, both of California; and two sisters, Ann Russell of Wisconsin and Betty Wagner of Dubuque.

Preceded in death by a son, Mervin; a daughter, Louise Burns; a brother, Richard; a sister, Nellie Russell; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be no services or visitation. Garden View Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family.
