LA PORTE CITY — Jim Davis, 71, of La Porte City, died Sunday, March 20, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo.

He was born Dec. 25, 1939, in Waterloo, son of Lyle "Dish" and Margaret Sorenson Davis. He married Connie Marie Lee on Aug. 13, 1960, in Cedar Falls. She died July 31, 1997.

Mr. Davis was a graduate of La Porte City High School. He worked as a truck driver for many years, owning and operating his own truck. He then worked for La Porte City Community Schools, retiring in 2001 after 20 years of service. He was a member of the La Porte City Golf and Country Club where he served a term as president and also assisted on several committees.

Survived by three sons, Rod (Sherri) of Liberty, Mo., Jimmy (Linda) of Tama and Larry of La Porte City; five grandchildren, Jay Davis, Bailey Davis, Lacey Davis, Travis Davis and Jeremiah Warren; a special friend, Sharon Allsup of La Porte City; and a sister, Joanie Wallis of Anthony, N.M.

Jim was raised on the family ranch north of La Porte City. In his early years, rodeo was his passion and he was one of the best cowboys in the area.

Memorial services 10:30 a.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, with inurnment in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at La Porte City Funeral Service and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
