WATERLOO — Orville A. Hoppenworth, 88, of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 13, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born July 17, 1922, in Douglas Township, Bremer County, son of Louis and Hedwig Boechman Hoppenworth. He married Darlene Glenyce Herman on Oct. 19, 1947, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Decorah.

He graduated from Denver High School in 1942. Mr. Hoppenworth worked for Lehman Chevrolet and was a diesel mechanic for Flood Farm Equipment and International Harvester Truck Garage. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Betty (William J.) Lorch of Joliet, Ill., and Marian (Gary) Parker Kilpatrick of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Amber Hoppenworth of Chicago, Kelly Parker of Astoria, N.Y., Kristy Parker of Cedar Falls and William E. Lorch and Debra Holthaus, both of Decorah; seven great-grandchildren, Randy Dawley, Linda Dawley, Tabitha Aswegan, Tiffany Aswegan and Travis, Billy and Casandra Lorch; a sister, Pauline Buss of Denver; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Hoppenworth of Conrad and Mildred Herman of Osage.

Preceded in death by a brother, Les; a brother-in-law, Elmer Buss; an infant son; and two infant daughters, Barbara Ann and Linda Sue.

Services 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Denver, with military rites by the Denver American Legion Post 653. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Concordia Lutheran Church.
