WATERLOO - James G. Jirak, 73, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 11, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 16, 1937, in Waterloo, son of George and Pearl McLoud Jirak. He married Janet F. Sizer Aug. 14, 1965, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School and worked at Black Hawk Abstract, Titus Manufacturing, and UNI. He retired from John Deere in 1988, after 20 years.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Faye M. (Kenneth) Graham of Waterloo; a son, Joseph J. (Kristan) of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Nolan Graham, Logan Graham, Abigail Graham and Chloe Jirak; and two brothers, Lawrence "Larry" of Waterloo and Donald "D.J." (Chris) of Evansdale.

James was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief and was an avid coin collector. He had a passion for history and attended many Civil War Historical Rendezvous, often held in Fort Atkinson.

Services 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
