WATERLOO - Florence Mae Rieck Thompson, 85, of Waterloo, died Friday, Feb. 25, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born March 8, 1925, on the family farm in Fayette County, daughter of Henry and Anna Staack Rieck. She married Robert Thompson on Oct. 1, 1944, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mrs. Thompson graduated from Waverly High School in 1943. During the war years she worked at Chamberlains Manufacturing making munitions. Later she was employed by Schoitz Memorial Hospital and retired from Foster's Oral Surgery as a medical technician in 1985. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Church, Evansdale.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Robert E. (Diane) of Waterloo and Richard of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kristen (George Steinke) Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Amy (Eric) Huggins of Lee's Summitt, Mo., Mark (Meagan) Thompson of Altoona, Ellen (Bryan) Sandholm and Jeffrey (Lindsay) Thompson, both of Ankeny, and Matthew (Jamie) Thompson of Davenport; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marlys (Lyle) Wrage of Gladbrook.

Preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Dorothy Rieck.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Evansdale, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Florence was a homemaker who is remembered as a caring and nurturing mother who enjoyed gardening and canning and was active in all her sons' school activities.
