WATERLOO - Arlyn W "Sonny" Phillips 69, of Waterloo, died Tuesday April 27, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home from complications of cancer.

He was born May 6,1934, in Lime Springs son of Arthur L. and Clara B. Ruzicka Phillips. He married Joan M. Flung on May 7,1959, in Waterloo. She died Dec. 23, 1999.

Mr. Phillips worked as the grounds superintendent at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery for 32 years, retiring July 1, 1999. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include four sons: Kevin (Denise), Keith (Kim) Craig (Joann) and Brad (Kathy), all of Waterloo; two daughters, Gail (John) Northness and Debbie Phillips (special friend Mike Clark) of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Clarice Neisen of Waterloo and Marlys Nefzger of Maynard

Preceded in death by: a stepbrother, Richard Peters; and brother, Alvin.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home. Burial following cremation will be in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p m today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
