BUCHE, CROFT, SOLE, DAVIDOWITZ

Helen M. Buche died Feb. 4, 2011, at home in East Moline, Ill. Her memorial service was Feb. 9 at First Presbyterian Church of East Moline.

Helen was born March 18, 1923, to Katie Irene (Croft) and Albert Sole at their farm home southeast of Earlham, and in 1940 graduated from Earlham High School. She was an AIB alumnus and worked as a secretary in Des Moines. Helen married James Buche of Madrid on Sept. 3, 1944, at Earlham Presbyterian Church. While in Des Moines, she put James through several years at Drake University.

In 1959 she moved to Waterloo and was active at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (Presbyterian Women, deacon and Sunday school), Northeast Iowa Citizen Band Radio Club Emergency Squad, Red Cross First Aid Instructor and Heart Association CPR Instructor (one of her students saved her husband life). She was Civil Defense Operations Officer of Black Hawk County.

In 1974 Helen moved to East Moline and was active in the First Presbyterian Church of East Moline. She enjoyed square dancing and genealogy.

Helen is survived by her husband; a daughter, Ruth Davidowitz, and a grandson, Andrew Davidowitz, both of Huntington Station, N.Y.
