George James Kinney III, 63, of Freeport, Ill., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at FHN Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 17, 1947, in Waterloo, he was the son of George E. and Margaret Ann (Gardner) Kinney II. He married Denise Chambers Padfield on April 10, 2004.

George graduated from St. John's Grade School and Waterloo West High School. He also graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology and received a business degree from Highland Community College.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran from 1965 to 1968, serving in the Mediterranean and the Virgin Islands as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class.

George owned his own painting business when he got out of the service. Before coming to Freeport, he worked at John Deere and Rath Packing Co., both in Waterloo. He was retired from Freeport Honeywell after 27 years of service.

He was a Stephenson County board member for 10 years.

His memberships included First Lutheran Church, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, CFMGT, Habitat for Humanity Board, Pearl City American Legion and Executive Distributor for W.T. Rawleigh.

Surviving are his wife, Denise of Freeport; his mother, Margaret A. Kinney of Waterloo; his daughters, Stacy Kinney of Freeport, Amanda (Josh) Paulsen of Lena, Ill., and Melissa (Stu) Williams of Palo; his sister, Mary Ann Hindman of Marion; his brothers, Patrick Kinney of Waterloo and Dr. William Kinney of Byron, Minn.; his grandchildren, Isabelle Paulsen and Colton Paulsen, both of Lena; and his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Michael; his brother-in-law, Steven Hindman; and his faithful canine companion, Lucy.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at First Lutheran Church, Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at the church.
