Wendell L. Koch, age 80 of Cedar Falls, Iowa and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born December 7, 1927 in rural Bremer County, Iowa the son of Rudy and Elsa (Hue) Koch. He graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1946 and Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls in 1951.

Wendell worked as an engineer. Following his retirement in 1976, he owned and operated a woodworking business in Cedar Rapids for many years. Wendell served his country in the US Army from 1946-1948. He was a member of Becker Chapman American Legion Post #138 in Waterloo.

Wendell loved to go fishing and worked as a fishing guide on the Mississippi River for a time. He enjoyed photography, traveling and had visited every continent except for Antarctica during his life. Wendell was a proud, patriotic American who was not afraid of adventure. He even celebrated his 75th birthday with a skydiving adventure.

Survivors include a son, John (Monica) Koch of Iowa City, IA; a grandson, David Koch and a brother, Curtis (Dolores) Koch of Waterloo, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Garden of Memories Mausoleum with full military honors conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post #138 and V.F.W. Post 1623. Entombment will be in the Garden of Memories Mausoleum. There will be no visitation. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.
