WATERLOO - Shirley M. Koslowski, 72, of Waterloo, died Monday, Jan. 17, at Parkview Gardens Nursing and Rehab of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

She was born May 1, 1938, in rural Calhoun County, daughter of Raymond and Esther Hitchcock Jones. She married Domenic Koslowski Aug. 1, 1960. He preceded her in death.

She was an elementary school teacher at Waterloo Schools, and a community activist following her husband's death. She ran for Waterloo mayor in 1993.

Survived by: a daughter, Julie Snider of Waterloo; a brother, LeRoy Jones of Dayton; three sisters, Carol Olson of Omaha, Neb., Nancy (Ronald) Johnson of Rake and Charlotte Tjelle of Dayton; and twin grandsons, Grant and Jordon Snider.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Thomas; and a sister in infancy, Eva Rae Jones.

Celebration of life will be held in early March at Waterloo Center for the Arts. An announcement will be in the Celebrations section of The Courier. Her body has been cremated. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
