Carol Lee Culver, 60, of Ames, formerly of Waterloo, passed away from cancer, Monday, Jan. 17, 2011. Celebration of Life is 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at First United Methodist Church. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Per Carol's wishes she has been cremated.

Carol was born in Sigourney on June 6, 1950, to Jay and Carolyn (Corell) Culver. She worked at the DOT for 26 years. Carol graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1968. She received her degree from Iowa State and her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Carol was a foster parent to many children over the past 20 years. She enjoyed music, playing her viola with the Waterloo Orchestra and during Scandinavian Days in Story City. She also enjoyed her pets, playing in the bell choir at Collegiate United Methodist Church and spending time with friends and family. Carol volunteered at ACCESS, the Department of Human Services, YSS, and was an accomplished foster care mother.

She is survived by her parents, Jay and Carolyn Culver; daughter, Johanne Culver-DeWinter; grandchildren, Jazmyne and Zayah; brothers, Casey, Kerry and Kevin (Janine) Culver; nieces, Shandrelle and Makaela Culver; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends, and all of her foster children.
