CEDAR FALLS - Edward D. "Dean" Ethington, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

He was born July 5, 1920 in Clearfield, son of Harold J. and Helen Clute Ethington. He married Maxine Caldwell on June 26, 1943, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mr. Ethington attended Iowa State College before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed as an engineer with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 39 years. He was past commander of the Cedar Falls AMVETS and had served on the Western Home Communities board of directors and the Cedar Falls Board of Adjustments.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Sandee (Daniel) Murphy of Cedar Falls; a son, Martin of Renton; a grandson, Ben Murphy of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Marilyn (Clare) Russie of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by: three brothers, Clair, Dale and Paul; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Ritter.

Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls. There will be no visitation. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard. Richardson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
