WATERLOO - Dorothy E. Johnson, 75, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 8, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Leavenworth, Kan., daughter of James F. and Lucille Graham Self. She married Leslie Lee Johnson Sr. on Aug. 25, 1956, in Waterloo. He died in 1983.

Mrs. Johnson was a teacher with the Black Hawk Development Center from 1965 to 1968. She also was employed by the Black Hawk County Health Department as a home care aide from 1972 to 1995.

Survived by: a son, Leslie Lee Jr. of Waterloo; two daughters, Deborah Fuller of Waterloo and Timi Beets of Cedar Rapids; a grandson whom she raised, Derius Johnson of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, James F. Self Jr. of Tacoma, Wash.; and a sister, Barbara (Russell) Van Arsdale of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Johnson; an infant brother; two sisters, Gertrude Williams and Betty Phillips; and three grandsons, Darrin Johnson, Leslie Johnson III and Jeremy Johnson.

Services: noon Saturday at Payne Memorial AME Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family at 615 Sumner St., where they will receive friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Allen Hospital and Cedar Valley Hospice for the great care given to Dorothy.
