INDEPENDENCE - Helen E. Ferch, 90, of Independence, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 8, at East Towne Care Center, Independence.

She was born April 7, 1920, in Charles City, daughter of Carl and Gladys Fredrick Nelson. She married Max Leo Ferch on March 2, 1944, in Seattle. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ferch attended Charles City schools.

Survived by two daughters, Judy Ann (Audie) Mills of Waterloo and Rosemary (David) Kayser of Independence; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Frederick C. Nelson of Lincoln, Neb., and Robert G. Nelson of Fort Worth, Texas.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where visitation begins at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo.
