Albert C. Manning was born Feb. 20, 1920 in Meadville, Missouri to Ernest Albert and Ruth Elizabeth Gauger Manning. He died Thursday, September 29, 1994 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

At the age of five, his father Ernest Manning left for Chillicothe on business and was never seen again. The mystery of what happened to Ernest was never solved. Albert's mother remarried in 1927 after somehow learning Ernest had died. Her second husband, John Kollasch, had a son, George (nicknamed "Delbert"), who was about the same age as Albert. They divorced in 1950.

Albert married Letha Ruby Lamp in 1942. They moved to the Waterloo, Iowa area about 1948. They were divorced in 1955. He then married Lieslotte Anna Hedegger McCallum in 1955. She had four kids from her marriage to Lester McCallum, ranging in age from about three to nine. They divorced about 1968. He was married a final time to Dorothy Loring in the early 70's. That marriage lasted a year or less.

Al was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a mess sergeant (a cook). He was stationed in Canada, a part of the forces building the Alcan Highway from Canada to Alaska. He was honorably discharged December 3, 1945.

Al had just one child, a son, Albert Manning, Jr. and one granddaughter who was a great source of joy to him.

Burial was in Garden of Memories, Waterloo, Iowa.
