WATERLOO - Lyle R. Parker, 83, of 1955 W. Sixth St., died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born July 16, 1916, in Jesup, son of Earl and Julia Gates Parker. He married Ruth Eitemiller on May 14, 1944, in Ames.

Mr. Parker was a graduate of Ames High School, Ames, and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran serving in the South Pacific as a Chief Pharmacist Mate. He was employed at Black's Department Store for 43 years as a credit manager, retiring in 1979. After retirement, he and his wife were representatives of Shaklee Vitamins. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Community Church, the Waterloo Lions Club, Toastmaster's International and Waterloo Rotary Club. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, walking, sharing time with his family, and was proud of being named Waterloo's first "Father of the Year" in 1964 by the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Ron of Vienna, Va.; two daughters, Karen Ogbourne of Ames and Lanette Rodgers of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Thierer of Buckingham.

Preceded in death by: four brothers, Clarence, Lawrence, Ray and Orville.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Valley Community Church, Waterloo, with 1:30 p.m. graveside services at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Graveside flag folding rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
