Lieselotte "Mickey" Manning, 74, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at home of natural causes.

She was born June 20, 1924, in Linden, Germany, daughter of Albert and Frieda Jurk Hedegger. She lived in Berlin during the Nazi regime, and often watched as Adolf Hitler's motorcade drove by their home. She also performed in the opening ceremonies of the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. Hitler was in the audience during this performance.

She married Lester McCallum, an American soldier who she met in Berlin at the end of WWII. They had four children together. They were later divorced. She then married Albert C. Manning Sr., and had one son with him. They were later divorced.

Mrs. Manning worked in bookkeeping and clerical positions for many years.

Survived by: two daughters, Millie Droste-Wolfgram of Dublin, Ohio, and JoAnn Selle of Grenada Hills, Calif.; three sons, Mack A. McCallum of Antelope, Calif., Jack McCallum of Austin, Texas (now deceased), and Al Manning of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gisela Mueller of Berlin, Germany.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Gunther Hedegger, and two sons who died in infancy.

Services 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Chapel of Memories, and for an hour before services at the church.
