JOSEPH WHITE
PASSED AWAY

LAST CHARTER MEMBER OF
CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

Deceased Had Lived in Waterloo
For Fifty-Nine Years.

At three o'clock this morning Joseph P. White died at the home of his son, J. J. White on Leland Avenue.

Mr. White has been in feeble health for the past two years and during this time was little outside his home save in the immediate neighborhood. Up to the time of his broken health he had been a life-long and constant attendant upon services at the First Congregational Church, of which he was the only surviving charter member at the time of his death. Although scarcely able to be out at the time, Mr. White attended the recent dedication of the tablet placed in the church in memory of the charter members. This was his last service and was about two months ago.

During his long residence in Waterloo, Mr. White has been well and favorably known by a large number of friends and acquaintances, but especially by the members of the church to which he belonged for so many years and which he was instrumental in establishing.

The funeral will be held from the residence of his son, J. J. White, 222 Leland Avenue, tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock. His pastor, the Rev. Rollins, will have charge of the religious exercises.

Joseph P. White was born in Massachusetts, November 2, 1821. He first came to Waterloo in 1854, moving his family here in 1856. His residence here has been continuous.

He was married in Whittingham, Vermont, November 9, 1846, to Cynthia Reed who died in Waterloo in 1871. Three children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. Eliza A. Ashley died twenty-two years ago. The son, J. J. White of Waterloo, survives his father. Mr. White was married a second time July 19, 1876 to Mrs. Martha J. Reed, who passed away four years ago. The second wife brought to the home from her former marriage two children, Mrs. E. L. Johnson and H. M. Reed of Waterloo. Three grandchildren survive to mourn the loss of the aged man, Joe, A. Ashley of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. J. T. Morrison of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. John W. Dock of Hudson, Iowa. Also a sister and only remaking member of the immediate family, Elizabeth J. Kingman of Los Angeles.

While Mr. White lived to a ripe old age and his going was not unexpected, nevertheless, he leaves a vacancy which cannot be filled and brings sorrow to his dear ones and those who feel with them in their loss.
