WATERLOO - Charles F. Kinney Jr., 84, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 31, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
He was born March 15, 1926 in Waterloo, son of Charles and Clara Sawyer Kinney. He married Elizabeth Schmitz June 23, 1947 in Eagle Center. She died Jan. 15, 2010.
Mr. Kinney attended Iowa State Teachers College and was employed with Rath Packing Co. and later with H & H Machine Tools, until retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force.
Survived by: three daughters, Charla Kinney and Sue (Lou) Ball, all of Waterloo, and Julie (Larry) Girsch of Gilbertville; two sons, Robert (Sherry) Kinney of Cabot, Ark., and Raphael Kinney of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren, Sarah (Toby) Hayek, Clint McVay, Michael Kinney, Chris (Shea) Kinney, Sheri Kinney, Dan Ball, Christy Ball, Ryan (Emily) Ball, Austin Kinney, Hanna Kinney, Joe Girsch and Mike Girsch; four great-grandchildren, Brady, Caden and Cooper Hayek, Brookelyn Yancey and Olivia Ball; a stepmother, Ruth Kinney of Moline, Ill.; and a stepsister, Kathy (Larry) Volbruck of Orion, Ill.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. There will be no visitation at the church Tuesday.
Memorials: may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.
Although he missed his wife, Elizabeth, this last year he enjoyed the memories of their winters in Texas and their many hours spent on their patio with each other and family members.
