WATERLOO - Herbert J. "Mick" Thomas, 91, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 16, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Lamont, son of Richard and Katheryn Gaffney Thomas. He married Evelyn Violet Johnson Burnell Nov. 30, 1945, in Waterloo. She died Dec. 14, 2002.

He worked at John Deere from 1937-75. Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church and American Legion.

Survived by: a son, Richard (Lauryce) Thomas of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a daughter, Kim (Frank) Swallow of Waterloo; a stepson, Stanley (Mary) Burnell of N. Muskegon, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Lola (Donald) Isenhower of Hudson; 16 grandchildren, Nathen, Jeremy, Laurinda, and Jana (Baez) Thomas, Brian, Tempest and Charity Thomas, Kathleen, David and Joseph Swallow, Steven, Treva, and Linda Isenhower, Becky Yuska, and Cary and Burnell; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbur Thomas of Florida, Dearl Thomas of Waterloo and Donald Thomas of Hawaii; and a sister, Margaret Schribner of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: a son, Gerald; a brother, Robert; a brother-in-law, Robert Schribner; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Thomas, Naomi Thomas and Stella Thomas.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites by VFW Post 1623 and American Legion Post 138 following the services. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home.
