WATERLOO - Edward A. Thissen, 90, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 9, at his home.

He was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Eagle Grove, son of Dr. R.J. and Mary Ricke Thissen. He married Lillian Johnson June 18, 1946, in Wesley.

Mr. Thissen was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-45. He was employed at Rath Packing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Diane (LeRoy) Buehler of Waterloo; two sons, Michael (Mary) of Davenport and Jeffrey (Donna) of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Eugene; and a sister, Eleanor Soppe.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.
