WATERLOO - Charles Schauf Sr., 81, of 627 Adams St., died Saturday, Dec. 4, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Marshalltown.

He was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Rodney, Miss., son of Harry Schauf Sr. and Elnora Banks. He married Gwendolyn Perkins on Sept. 11, 1948, in Nashua. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Schauf retired from John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works after 38 years. He was a steward at Payne Memorial AME Church, where he was a class leader and sang in the men's quartet.

Survived by: five daughters, Claudia Cryer, Jennifer (Bennie) Walker Jr., the Rev. Carolyn Stevenson and Stennette Schauf, all of Waterloo, and Stephenie Lee of Cincinnati; two sons, Charles C. Jr. of Waterloo and Stephen (Sheila) of Fishers, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Estelle Perkins of Woodville, Miss.; a brother, Harry Jr. of Marion, Ill.; and a stepbrother, Emell Banks of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services at noon Saturday at Payne Memorial AME Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and for an hour before services Saturday, all at the church. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to family at 421 Wendall Court, where they will receive friends.
