FRED 'ZEBE' LARSON

WATERLOO - Fred "Zebe" Larson, 99, of Friendship Village, died Sunday (Dec. 2, 2001) at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, due to complications from a fall.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the United Methodist Church on Kimball Ave., with the Rev. Marvin Cleair officiating. Interment will be held in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Locke Funeral Home, 1519 W. Fourth St. in Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to West High Athletic Fund in Waterloo.

He was born November 14, 1902, in Clermont, Iowa, the son of Nils and Kjersti Nelson Larson.

He graduated from Clermont High School in 1921 and Upper Iowa University in 1927 with a B. A. in History.

Zebe married Dorothy Schlosser on the farm on July 19, 1932, in Nora Springs. She died in 1984.

He was a teacher and the first baseball coach for West High School from 1943 to his retirement in 1969.

Zebe was a member of Kimball Ave. United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, LuAnne Bearbower of Ferryville, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Patsy E. Larson, of Imperial, Mo.; one son, Leland "Swede" Larson, of Peterson, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Douglas Fairbanks, of Minneapolis, Minn., Diane Dix, of Evansdale, Kim Cheverton, of Burke Burnett, Texas., Kirsten Richesson, of Copell, Texas, Rachel Larson, of Grenada, Colo., Garrick Larson, of Moorhead, Minn., Blair Larson, of Rochester, Minn., and Adam Larson, of Madison,Wis.; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Elisa Bigler, of Cedar Falls.

Zebe is preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Loren; five brothers, Louie, Peter, Henry, Louis, and George; and four sisters, Clara, Rose, Emma, and Bess.
