WATERLOO - Shirley Mae Kreger, 74, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, Nov. 29.

She was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Arland, Wis., daughter of Otto and Cecelia Hain Moen. She married William Nelson Thompson in June 1956; he died in August 1992. She then married Eugene C. Kreger in 1993 in Waterloo.

Mrs. Kreger was an assistant and business manager to Max and Helen Guernsey for many years and served as a trustee on the Guernsey Charitable Foundation until her death.

Survived by: her husband; two sons, William (Cindy) Thompson of Boise, Idaho, and Scott Thompson of Salt Lake City; a daughter, Jan (Jack) Schulte of Waterloo; three stepsons, Steven Kreger of Cedar Falls, Mark (Mary Margaret) Kreger of Apple Valley, Minn., and Paul Kreger of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Breanna and Eric Schulte; five stepgrandchildren, David, Lucas, Adam and Julia Kreger and Jill Henry; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Owen and Josephine Kreger; a brother, Jerry (Dor) Moen of California; and a sister, Vicky (Ted) Madry of Oregon.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Eugene Rhodes; and a sister, Vivian Warren.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials: may be directed to Mayo Clinic Poverello Fund (a fund for patients in financial need) or to Hawkeye Community College Max Guernsey Foundation.

Shirley was extremely proud of her position with the Guernsey Trust. Through her caring, she was able to help other people. Shirley's position as a Trustee allowed her to help organizations and ultimately people.
