[Waterloo Courier, Saturday, November 27, 2010]

Beverly Baker Koch, formerly of Waterloo, died Nov. 15 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., from complications of cancer of the larynx. She was 76. Bev was known to many as a marvelous creator and hostess of theme parties for the many friends she and her husband, Fred, have, both in Iowa and Florida. The Kochs have lived in Florida since Fred's retirement as president of Metro Bancorporation, holding company for the former Waterloo Savings Bank (now U.S. Bank).

Bev was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., along with a twin sister, Barbara B. Wilson. Their parents were Margaret Daisy and Harold E. Baker. Bev is survived by her husband, Fred; her twin sister, Barb; brother, Barry Baker (Meg) of LaGrange, Ill.; daughter, Katy K. Campbell (Ralph) of Edina, Minn.; son, Fritz Koch (Debbie) of Ward, Colo.; and two grandsons, Jack Frederick Campbell and Baxter Quigley Koch. She was preceded in death by her parents, and Francis Campbell, a grandson.

The Baker family spent many years in Des Moines. There Bev attended Hubbell Elementary School and Roosevelt High School. Although they moved to Alton, Ill., during the twin girls' senior year, the duo has maintained contact with many classmates from the Roosevelt High School class of 1952.

Bev is a graduate of the University of Iowa where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. She taught second grade for one year at Henry Wallace grade school in Des Moines before getting married. Bev and Fred have continued to actively support and host gatherings in Florida for the University of Iowa Foundation President's Club.

Bev was an active sustainer with the Junior League of Waterloo/Cedar Falls and the former Junior League of the Palm Beaches, Fla. She also was a proud member of Chapter KS of PEO in Waterloo and an active alumna member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

The Kochs have been members of First Congregational Church in Waterloo since the 1960s.

Cremation services were held, and the family is planning a memorial gathering for June 2011. Memorials may be directed to donor's choice.

Beverly Koch was well loved and will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives.
