Harlan James "Hal" Hanna, 68, died Nov. 15 in Dayton, Ohio. He died from complications due to early onset Alzheimer's. Hal was born in Forest City on Nov. 18, 1941. He attended Brown Institute in Minnesota for a degree in broadcasting, worked as a radar operator in the U.S. Air Force and was employed for several radio stations until moving to Waterloo in 1969 to work for KXEL. Hal retired in 1999 and moved to Dayton.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Day of Dayton; son Brian Hanna of Painesville, Ohio; daughters Christina (Jeff) Blake of Cedar Falls, Melanie (Luis) Monzon of Dayton and Jill Piersol of Springfield, Ohio; six grandchildren; brother Vernon (Sheryl) Hanna of Wooden; sister Marcine (Guy) Carlson of Minooka, Ill.; brother Ronald (Marlys) Hanna of Swea City; sister-in-law Betty Hanna of Wooden; brother-in-law Dick Havlik of Palmyra, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at College Hill Community Presbyterian Church, 1547 Philadelphia Drive, Dayton, at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19. If you wish to make a donation in his honor, make checks payable to the Alzheimer's Association, 2712 Orchard Drive, Ste B-2, Cedar Falls, IA 50613
