ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Clara Samec, 94, of Elk Run Heights, died Thursday, Nov. 11, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Waterloo.

She was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Howard County, near Protivin, daughter of Charles and Anna Hron Hosek. She married Edward Samec May 29, 1939, at Holy Trinity Church in Protivin. He preceded her in death.

Survived by: a daughter, Elaine Hyke of Elk Run Heights; two grandchildren, Shelly (Todd) Hansen of Holland and Douglas (Vicki) of Evansdale; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Madison and Jessica Hyke, and Nicholas and Kayla Hansen.

Preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Leon Hyke; a brother, Vincent Hosek; and a sister, Adella Samec.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Monday at Conway Funeral Home, Protivin.

She loved to cook and she made bread, rolicky and kolache until she was 91 years of age. She did crafts, crocheted, and grew African violets. Clara also enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, especially the Hawkeyes on TV.
