WATERLOO - Charles "Chuck" Averill, 73, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 11, at his son's home in Conrad.

He was born March 25, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Merle and Nellie Sankey Averill. He married Irene Kelch Averill Oct. 1, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. She died July 11, 2009.

He was self-employed with Averill Trucking.

Survived by: two sons, Merle (Lucy) of Conrad and Bob (Margy) of Marshalltown; four grandchildren, Willie (Andi) Averill of Anamosa, Jenny (Ben) Keller of Conrad, Rebecca Averill of Phoenix and Anthony Averill, who is currently on deployment with the U.S. Marine Corp; five great-grandchildren, Macie, Calob, Colton, Emma and Cael; two stepgrandchildren, Lindsay (Ryan) Kappelman of Urbandale and Ian Brockway of Marshalltown; a stepgreat-grandchild, Isabelle; a brother, Ray (Rita) Averill of Cedar Falls; four sisters, Beulah LaPole and Darleen Beuhner, both of Waterloo, and June Dunn and LaVonne Turner, both of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Becky; a brother, Bob Averill; a sister-in-law, Pat Averill; and four brothers-in-law, Jim LaPole, Don Turner, Lee Beuhner and Jay Dunn.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
