AMO, Mary Ann (Spooner) 1927-2010

Mary Ann Spooner Amo, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at home of natural causes. She was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Sioux City, the daughter of David and Francis Tracy Spooner. She married Warren Amo on Sept. 5, 1944, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1971. She later married Harvey Spooner in Emmetsburg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1985.

Mary worked her entire life at various jobs including the Maywood Grocery Store, Cutler Wholesale Hardware, Waterloo Courier and most recently at Hawkeye Valley Agency on Aging for more than 20 years, retiring in 2007.

Survived by: one son, Stephen (Deb) Amo of Sumner; one daughter, Bobette (Charles) Aries of Cedar Falls; three stepsons, Vernon "Bob" (Kaye) Spooner of Waterloo, John Spooner of Fort Dodge and Steven Spooner of Waterloo; four stepdaughters, Amanda (Steve) Poisel of Oregon, Kathy "Cookie" (John) Greene of Evansdale, Vira "Tiny" Spooner of Waterloo and Nyleeta Huffaker of Waterloo; two sisters, Beverly M. Rooff of Waterloo and Irene Jean McElhaney of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, stepgreat-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She loved them all.

Preceded in death by: her parents; both husbands; one daughter, Georgia Ann Sommerfelt; one brother, Leo Spooner; and one great-granddaughter, Dani Amo.

Services: will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and also one hour before the service.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.
