WATERLOO - Gladys V. Schmidt, 96, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Oct. 30, at Lakeview Landing at Friendship Village.

She was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Sioux Pass, Mont., daughter of Walter and Lula Mae Robertson Peterson. She married Lorenz E. Schmidt Nov. 26, 1937, in Lafayette, Ind. He died April 19, 2007.

Survived by: two sons, Phil (Judy) Schmidt of Washington, Mich., and Dr. Arthur "Chip" (Linda) Schmidt of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Judy (Bob) Brown of Cedar Falls and Pam Walther of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Lyda Hilt, Garna Landgraf and Mary Minton; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Leonard "Pete" Peterson; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Private committal service at Garden of Memories Cemetery before the memorial service. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball.

Memorials: in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, Immanuel Lutheran Church, or Friendship Village Auxiliary.

Blessed with creativity and humor, her life was centered on her church, family, friends, bridge, baking, and a multitude of hobbies, especially quilting.
