WATERLOO - Cecil H. Crouse, 92, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Oct. 20, of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Sidney, son of John and Minnie Garrett Crouse. On Aug. 12, 1939, he married Elaine Haals in Thurman. She died June 13, 2003.

Mr. Crouse graduated from Audubon High School, Audubon, then entered the U.S. Army during World War II where he learned how to fly, before serving with the Army Corps of Engineers in Italy. He also served during the Korean War. He owned Crouse Redi-Mix, Audubon, before moving to Waterloo. He started United Concrete with several partners in 1970 and managed the business until retiring in 1977. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survived by: two sons, Dr. James (Susan) Crouse and Dennis, both of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Christina (John) Wood and Alexander (Leah) Crouse, both of Waterloo, Benjamin (Annabelle) Crouse of Vancouver, B.C., Andrew Crouse of Washington, D.C., and John Crouse of Davenport; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille (Calvin) Paulsen of Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Nancy Lucille; a son, Roy D.; and eight brothers and sisters.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Iowa Army National Guard Honor Guard. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Cecil enjoyed reading books, watching sports, exploring small town diners, being a handyman and entertaining family and friends. He also enjoyed taking his dog, Tiger, to the dog park.
