CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- A Cedar Falls man was killed Wednesday in a construction accident in Illinois.

Timothy Shields, 46, died from an injury sustained while doing demolition work at a chemical plant near Joliet, Ill.

According to the Will County (Ill.) Sheriff's Office, Shields was finishing demolition work at the Oiltanking plant in Channahon at about 10:20 a.m. when the accident occurred. Shields and another employee of Wood and Sons Construction were breaking down sections of an old truck weigh scale when a 10-foot section 1-inch rebar broke loose and hit him in the forehead, underneath his hard hat.

Shields was taken to Provena St. Joseph's Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy confirmed his death was a direct result of the worksite accident.
