WATERLOO — Rodney Kenneth "Rod" Kjarum, 62, of Castle Rock, Colo., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, at home.

He was born May 22, 1948, in Austin, Minn., son of Kenneth and Harriet Kjarum. He married Nancy Hintermeister on Aug. 30, 1969, in Slayton, Minn.

He graduated from Mankato State College in 1972 with a degree in special education. He was active in the Waterloo School District for more than 30 years, both teaching and coaching, retiring in 2004. He taught in Colorado in 2006 at Lewis Palmer School District in Monument, Colo.

Survived by: his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Darcy (Brent) Hendricks and Dara (Cliff) Flowers; four grandchildren, Lillie Jo and Elise Kjarum Hendricks and Carson James and Cooper Rodney Flowers; sisters, Cindy Kjarum, Roxanne Kjarum and Candace Jackson; and many other friends and family.

Celebration of Life: today at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Colorado. Public visitation was at Olinger-Andrews Funeral Home, Castle Rock.

Memorials: may be directed to the Rod Kjarum Memorial Fund, Girls Softball in care of The Waterloo Optimist Club of Waterloo, P.O.Box 1032, Waterloo 50704.
