WATERLOO - Luther Gene Batte Jr., 60, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Sept. 18, after a short illness.

He was born July 15, 1950, in Brandon, Miss., son of Luther Batte Sr. and Annie Lee Lott.

He worked construction for many years.

Survived by: two sons, Luther Batte III and Lester "G" Batte; two daughters, Reba Ballew and Nikki Batte; two brothers, Robert Batte and Johnnie Sanders; two sisters, Diana Hodges and Denice Sanders; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a son, Rolondo Ballew.

Memorial Services: 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cathedral Faith, 3040 Hammond, with an 8 p.m. dinner. Sanders Funeral Service assisted the family.

Luther was known for his laid-back, yet humorous personality. He had a big heart, spending precious time with family. He loved fishing, singing and listening to music. He'll be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
